Long story short

Chris Ferguson is a 5-time winner of the World Series of Poker events, winning a net worth of over $25 million.

His poker journey began at the age of 10 when he started putting the basis of his later career in poker.  He made his first steps in making real money from online poker when he was in college.

By the age of 30, he decided he wants some real-life poker events so he began attending poker tournaments. One year later, in 1995, he attended is first World Series of Poker event. Only five years later he won $1.5 million at another WSOP event.

WSOP Bracelets

Here’s how it all happened…

  • 2000: The year 2000 was a great year for Chris Ferguson. He won 2 events: $151,000 ($2,500 Seven Card Stud) and $1,500,000 ($10,000 No Limit Texas Hold ’em World Championship)
  • 2001: He won ~ $165,000
  • 2003: Another excellent year for Chris was 2003 when he made almost $200,000 from two events ($123,680 – $2,000 Omaha Hi-Lo Split Eight or Better and $66,220 – $2,000 1/2 Limit Hold’em – 1/2 Seven Card Stud)

The Full Tilt and the lawsuit

Chris Ferguson’s image of a perfect poker player suffered in 2011 when the U.S. Government shut down Full Tilt due to several legal issues. Back then, Chris was one of the directors of the site. His lawyer sustained that the issues of not paying the players were due to mismanagement and not malice. The lawsuit closed in 2013 when Chris was due to pay the entire amount of money to those who legally deserved it. The problem is now settled.

After these events, Chris took part in 2016 in WSOP event hosted by the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. Unfortunately, he couldn’t replicate the success he had in the beginning of the 2000s.

‘I’m just here to play poker’

Another popular line Chris is known for is – ‘I’m just here to play poker’. He repeatedly said this at the WSOP events in 2016, when he was asked whether or not he wants to present his apologies after the Full Tilt scandal that shook the world of poker. He preferred saying – ‘I’m just here to play poker’.

All in all, whether or not Chris Ferguson’s actions are wrongly interpreted or not, a fact is certain – back in the 2000s, he proved to be a skilled player. Will he manage to get back his reputation or is his career already over? Tell us your opinion! We eagerly want to know it…
